The W.J. Mouat Hawks Triple-A varsity football team concluded the regular season in style with a 20-6 victory against the Centennial Centaurs Friday in a rematch of the 2009 Subway Bowl.

The Hawks flew out of the gate early with a pair of quick strike touchdowns – a 30-yard run from Grade 12 runningback Devin Logan and a 30-yard reception from Deion Bain in the first quarter – to open up a 14-0 lead.

It was a defensive struggle from there on in, as the Hawks held their opponents from Coquitlam to just six points the rest of the way.

The win marked the final home game of the 2011 season for the No. 2-ranked Hawks – courtesy The Province’s Big 5 Triple-A rankings – before heading into the playoffs.

The Hawks were scheduled to play Earl Marriot on Nov. 4; however, the latter school’s football program folded last week.

The Hawks have now won three games in a row with the playoffs and the chance to get back to the Subway Bowl game for the third time in four years approaching fast.
