Jake Heathcote of the W.J. Mouat Hawks was named Defensive Player of the Game, while teammate Nathan Henczel added a fourth quarter interception, as Team B.C. opened up the Football Canada Cup with an 18-0 win over Team Manitoba on Saturday in Lethbridge, Alta.

Heathcote and Henczel, two highly touted players who are both heading into their Grade 12 year in the fall, helped Team B.C. limit Manitoba to just 187 yards offensively, including just 51 yards rushing.

Team B.C., which includes six Abbotsford high school football players, will try and hold Team Quebec’s high flying offence when the two teams meet tonight at 6 p.m. PDT.

The winner of tonight’s game will earn a berth in the gold medal game on Friday.
