Team B.C. outlasts Manitoba in defensive battle

In the second game of the 2011 Football Canada Cup British Columbia took on Manitoba. Similar to game 1, the first half was a feeling out process resulting in a defensive battle. The single score in the opening half was a rouge counted by the boot of Team BC punter punter Michael Peverelle.

BC won the field position battle in the first half but could not score. Highly toughted Running Back Terrell Davis (Saanichton) had a solid first half leading all rushers. A big fumble recover by BCs Joseph Gabriele looked to give Team BC some momentum but they could not capitalize as the Manitoba defense stood their ground.

Team B.C. opened the deadlock in the middle of the third quarter with a 33 yard field goal by #88 Lerone Robinson (Vancouver). B.C. secured the victory on a 17 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jordan Deverill to receiver Sam Davies. QB Mike Carney also had a late fourth quarter touchdown from a 2 yards out. Final score 18 to 0 Team British Columbia. They await the winner of Quebec v. Ontario East. [UPDATE: Quebec won; BC now faces Quebec in the semi-finals on Tuesday, July 12th at 7pm MT.]

The Manitoba ‘front seven’ was impressive all day, lead by Defensive Lineman Quinn Horton (Winnipeg). BC defensive back Nathan Henczel [WJ Mouat Hawks] had a strong game with one break up and a late 4th quarter interception.
