It wasn’t a vintage performance by the W.J. Mouat Hawks, but the No. 1-ranked AAA high school football team in the province maintained its undefeated record with a 31-13 victory over the Holy Cross Crusaders in Burnaby on Saturday.

Holy Cross was winless in conference play heading in, but they gave the Hawks all they could handle.

“I think maybe our kids looked past them a little bit,” Hawks coach Denis Kelly theorized. “It was slow going. We made quite a few mistakes in the first half, and they made some plays.”

Ultimately, a monster game from quarterback Cam Bedore bailed out Mouat. Bedore rushed for three touchdowns – including a pair of epic first-half scampers of 60 and 40 yards – and threw for another major to David Park.

“When things didn’t look good, he made some spectacular plays,” Kelly said.
