HAMILTON (October 12, 2010) – The following student-athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 10, 2010.
OFFENCE: Justin Chapdelaine, Queen’s Gaels, Quarterback
Justin Chapdelaine of Abbotsford, B.C., became the first player in Queen’s history to throw for six touchdown passes. The second year quarterback connected with four different receivers for the majors in the Gaels 66-1 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues and now ranks sixth all-time in CIS history for touchdown passes in a game. Chapdelaine finished the game an efficient 21 for 25 with 284 yards while also adding 17 yards and a touchdown on the ground, his fifth on the season, ranking him fourth overall in the CIS.
DEFENCE: Sam Sabourin, Queen’s Gaels, Linebacker
Sam Sabourin of Stittsville, Ont., continued his outstanding rookie season as he recorded 10.5 tackles as Queen’s defeated the Toronto on Saturday. Sabourin, who also had his first career interception in the contest as well as a pass breakup and a tackle for a loss, played a big role in holding the Varsity Blues to just six first downs and 39 yards rushing. He now leads the country in total tackles with 49.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Dan Village, Queen’s Gaels, Kicker/Punter
Dan Village of Abbotsford, B.C., scored 12 of the Gaels 66 points this past weekend. Village was a perfect 9 for 9 in extra point attempts while adding a 36 yard field goal in the victory. He also averaged 40.3 yards per punt in the game. Village’s 12 points means he now trails former Queen’s kicker Jamie Galloway by just nine points for the all-time Queen’s scoring record.
