ABBOTSFORD — The No. 1-ranked W.J. Mouat Hawks improved to 4-0 on the season, topping a U.S. foe for the second straight week following its 35-14 win over Bonita Vista High of Chula Vista, Cal.

The Hawks defence was at it’s ball-hawking best in the first half, scoring touchdowns in both the first and second quarters off interception returns to lead 14-0. Markin scored the first one on a 25-yard return, and Tanner Hamade the second on a 70-yard return.

Bonita Vista scored off a 10-yard option play to cut the lead in half, but then Mouat put together a 70-yard drive, capped by a 10-yard screen pass to provincial Triple A rushing leader Devin Logan from quarterback Cam Bedore for what proved to be the winning touchdown.

For good measure, Mouat recovered Bonita Vista’s onside kick and went in to score on an eight-yard pass from Bedore to Logan to lead 28-7 at the half.

Mouat’s final score off Bedore’s four-yard strike to tight end Luke Friesen.

Bedore finished with 250-plus yards of passing while Jake Heathcoate has three quarterback sacks.
